Miss Margaret Evans, public health nurse for the Rockingham-Caswell Public Health District since 1946, has resigned to accept a position as supervisor of nurses with the Robeson County Health Department.
Miss Evans received her training as a nurse at Johns Hopkins and her bachelor of science degree in public health nursing from the University of North Carolina. She took a leave of absence from September 1947 to July 1948 to study at UNC.
Dr. B.M. Drake, district public health director, said a successor has not been chosen yet.
The Madison tobacco market concluded its 1949 season with sales averaging $40.03 per hundredweight on the final day. ... Some 300 Rockingham County students participated in the annual Achievement Day program at Wentworth School. Among medal and certificate winners were Betty Haynes of the Midway club, Ralph Strader of Ruffin, Donald Haynes of Bethany and Judy Zimmerman of Williamsburg. ... Plans are being made for a district qualification basketball tournament in Reidsville. It will be open to men's and women's teams seeking to qualify for the Carolinas Basketball Association tournament to be held in Asheboro in March.
Walnut Cove scored three minutes before the final horn to beat Draper High 12-6 in a football game at Leaksville. ... Dr. M.P. Cummings, county coroner, has ordered an autopsy on Mrs. J.W. Draper, following her death at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital. He noted that her husband is under a $5,000 bond for an attack on her several months ago. ... Phil Link, Reidsville pharmacist and artist, regularly submits his work in the annual North Carolina Artists Exhibit at Raleigh but this year marks the first time he himself has been hung. His entry this year is entitled "Pensive Painter" and it is a picture of an artist - Link, no less - in front of a canvas.
