AREA ODD FELLOWS GATHER TO CELEBRATE 108TH ANNIVERSARY
April 14-20, 1927 


The 108th anniversary of the founding of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows was observed at a district Odd Fellows meeting held in Draper. 

The meeting was attended by delegates from Greensboro, High Point, Burlington and Randleman, as well as Leaksville, Spray and Draper. Grand Master R.L. Spaulding of Asheville addressed the gathering. 

Luther H. Hodges, governor-elect of the 57th Rotary District, and W.B. Weaver will attend the International Rotary convention to be held in Ostend, Belgium, June 5-10. They will sail from New York May 26 on the Cunard line. ... The town of Stoneville is advertising the sale of $50,000 six percent bonds, the proceeds of which will be used to install a water and sewer system in the town. ... The playoffs for the western high school baseball championship will begin later this month, with two Rockingham teams in the competition. Reidsville will meet High Point April 26 in High Point, and Madison will play Mount Airy at Mount Airy April 23. 

The Ruffin Township Community Club will hold its spring meeting at the Ruffin School on April 26. A picnic supper will be eaten beneath the pines on the campus and then a program will be presented in the auditorium. ... Death struck a Rockingham family twice in one day. Mrs. F.A. Ferrell, 72, of Ruffin, died of pneumonia that morning and five hours later her brother, Sam S. Harris of Reidsville, died following an operation in a Greensboro hospital. ... At a meeting of the Leaksville Thimble Club at the Carolina Home, Mrs. D.F. King presented a paper on the history of the club since its founding in October 1907 with four charter members. Mrs. Reuben Reid was hostess. The rooms were made lovely by the use of redbud and dogwood blossoms.
