Miss Griffin is Bride of Clyde Powell

In a wedding of widespread interest, Miss Virginia Griffin, (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Griffin, married Clyde Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs, Charlie Powell, on Christmas day in the home of Rev. John Banks, pastor of the Tabernacle Methodist church, in Martinsville. Only a few close friends of the two families witnessed the ceremony. 


The bride, very popular among ths younger set of this and nearby cities, graduated from Leaksville high school with the class of 1935. She then entered training at the Leaksville hospital from which place she graduated in 1935 She still holds a position with the hospital.

The groom is widely known here and in other sections having played professional baseball with the Bi-State League with the Tri-Cities, Mayodan, Danville, Reidsville and South Boston. Upon the completion of the 1939 season, he was purchased by the Winston-Salem Twins to play in higher class ball next year.


For the time being, the young couple are residing on Fieldcrest Road.
