I have just discovered the website. Later I hope to share some insights of Leaksville from a fifty vantage point. Thanks for a special 'visit' to 'Five Forks' and the old 'Y'. Keep up the good work! Robert F. Carter
My dad John William Bateman was from Leaksville. He join the army in about 1920.
Hi~I love the website! My father born and raised in Leaksville as was much of his family. His name was Francis Lloyd Wilkins (later Frank because he thought Francis was a "sissy name") I notice there is a "Brownie Wilkins" listed on the NICKNAMES page. My father told me numerous times that he was known in his youth as Brownie and Sonky. I wonder if this is that is him on the page? I sent Mr. Carter an email. He was born in 1920 to Robert Lee and Virginia Simpson Wilkins. I know that one of his grandmothers was named Laura Alice Carter. His best friend growing up and also his uncle (near the same age) was Francis Buckner who was married to Lorraine(Robert Lee Wilkins' sister who still lives there to my knowledge) My father had two sisters, Marion (Peggy) and Margaret. ANY information anyone can give me on this family would be WONDERFUL! My father told me once that his father Robert Lee Wilkins was once president of 3 combined union locals-THe AFofL, the Textile WOrkers of America, and one more that I can't recall right off hand. THANKS!

Born in Readsville in 1953 and spent most of my childhood in Eden and surrounding area. Graduated in 1971 from Morehead and moved away shortly after and when I joined the Marines. This site brought back many memories about the town that I call home. Thanks for the good work and efforts that have been put into the site.
I would love to get in touch with the class of '77 to find out about upcoming reunions. I've enjoyed looking at the old photos and even recogonized some faces and names.
I've been searching for my family history. My Father was born in Leaksville, and his Father, Forest Newman was a dairy Farmer, at Sunset Dairy I believe. There were several other Newman childrenm: Harold,Francis, Robert, Merl, Georgia, Nellie. My Father's mother was Edie Glidewell, and a rlative of hers was a well known criminal lawyer in that area in the early 1900's. Can you be of any help?
I love this site i have learned alot bout tha city i live in.most of this stuff i didnt know about like the Draper race track and other places.

I have a million stories about growing up at five forks, but they are in my head and not on paper. Sorry Larry
I wasn't from Leaksville proper, but grew up (as Cathy) about three miles past King's Mill Bridge & Shiny Rock on the Price Road. My family operated Sunset Farms there from the late 20's through the mid-60's. My brother ("Buddy," TCHS '57) was a Marine Corps recruiter in the area in the early 60's and signed up numbers of Leaksville's finest. I worked for much of my social work career for Glenn Fuqua (LHS '51) and tons of other Edenites at the Rock co Dept of Social Services. At one point there, in the old WPA building by the statue in Reidsville, I even shared an office with John Marshall Carter before he hit the big time!! This is a great site, good to see the old pictures and a lot of familiar names.
Miss Eden some time. Charlotte has it's advantages. ie:Traffic, highest sales tax in NC, and we do have a K-Mart. Would enjoy hearing from any of you.
Hello! When I was a child growing up in Greensboro I would look forward to the weekends because I knew there was a good chance we would be going over to Leaksville. And that meant I was going to have fun visiting with my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. I had plenty of them too, considering that my Mother, Lillian "Tish" Carter Soots, was the youngest of thirteen children. I was never at a loss for someone to talk to or to play with. Yes, Leaksville holds many warm, wonderful memories for me. And visiting this site brings back many of those fond memories. Thanks, Kenny, for putting this all together. I'll now be a regular visitor and if I run across any old photos, articles or anything else about Leaksville, I'll be sure to pass them on to be posted here. Thanks again Kenny.
