I was born in the old Leaksville Hospital in 1952 & except for a few years of travel, have spent most of my life in the Leaksville area. My family actually goes back six generations in this area. Thanks for a great site. I was born and raised in Leaksville. MHS class of 77. I have worked at Karastan rug for 24 years and have been all over that old mill from top to bottom many times. Thanks for the old photos of the plant.

REMEMBER THE ELFS!! Yes, some of you out there in leaksville.com land were proud students at Leaksville-Spray Junior High School. I know I was. I still have to chuckle when I think back on the fact that our mascot was an elf. Not that there's anything wrong with the little people, but on our uniforms, gym uniforms, and who knows what else, the plural that was used was Elfs. Just think! For years, nobody, teachers, parents, etc. realized that we had a misspelled mascot! Maybe somebody did but didn't do anything about it becaues E-L-V-E-S would've required a monetary outlay to replace all those misspelled basketball uniforms, etc. It's kind of a hoot to me! REMEMBER THE ELFS!!!

I am looking for any information about the Tiller or Leffew families. My grandfather's name is Bill Leffew. My grandmothers maiden name is Tiller. Her fathers name was E.C. Tiller and I am not sure of her mothers name. They lived on Bridge St. in the early 1900's and maybe before for all I know. E.C. Tiller and his wife had 11 childern. This really is a great site and I have enjoyed it. The Draper class of 1952 had it's 50th reunion May 4th and I heard about your site there. I'm going to contact everyone I can and tell them about this great idea. I have lots of the photos that you have shown and several of the Draper area also that I have collected over the years if you would like to have some on Draper. My brother was Roy Searcy who was on the 1953 State Champs Basketball team and went on to Carolina where he played basketball and was on the 1957 National Championship team. Would you like a photo of that team?

We lived in Leaksville from 1962-1968 I have nothing but great memories of NC and Rockingham Co. I still consider Leaksville home. I only make it to the area once every 5 to 10 years. I love to drive by the old areas we visited daily. Guilford Dairy Bar, The Sealtest Drive Inn and the Boulevard area.

This is great. It has brought back a lot memories. My mom and dad told me about this. I was born in Leaksville in l957, but moved with my family to Lenoir, NC in 1968. Grew up in Leaksville and attended Burton Grove, LS Junior High. We moved to Greensboro in 1960, but still get over to Eden to visit family. My parents were Gordon and Christine Osborne have passed away, so it is nice to go back to the "good old days". My Dad owned a most popular restaurant down near where the Miller Plant is now. It was called "The Palomar"and it was the place for the adults to party and dine. I remembered the Glenos Lunch, I think, if it was on Washington Street. My sister and I went there on Sat. for lunch after dancing lessons at the YMCA in Spray, then later to the matinee movie down the street. The best hamburgers and lots of "funny books" on the magazine racks to read while we were there. I have stayed up much too late tonight enjoying this site. Thanks for the blast from the past.
